Kymco Downtown 300i - Master Maintenance & Torque Guide

The Kymco Downtown 300i uses a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with a heavy-duty CVT variator sized for its 300cc displacement class. Its 18-pole stator and higher-torque drive face nut place this machine firmly in maxi-scooter territory, where fastener specs are noticeably higher than Kymco's 50-125cc lineup, and where oil filter and stator service require the same discipline mechanics would apply to a full-size motorcycle.

Spark Plug Model & Electrode GapNGK CR7E (0.7 – 0.8 mm)
Field note: The Downtown 300i holds 1.3L for oil drains and 1.5L when changing the 15400-LEA7-900 paper cartridge filter element. Check level on center stand with dipstick resting on threads (do not screw in). Gearbox holds 210ml refill.

CVT Transmission System

ComponentCVT Drive Belt
OEM Part Number23100-LFA7-E00
Dimensions1004 x 25.2 mm
Torque SpecDrive face nut: 90 Nm
Cross-CompatibilityKymco People GT 300i
Field note: 90 Nm is a substantial torque value for a variator nut — always use a calibrated torque wrench.

Engine Lubrication System

ComponentEngine Oil Filter Element
OEM Part Number1541A-LBA2-E00
DimensionsPaper cartridge
Torque SpecFilter cover: 10 Nm
Fluid Spec5W-50 Synthetic (1.5L)
Cross-CompatibilityKymco Xciting 500
Field note: The filter cover bolts on this thin-wall aluminum casting are easy to over-torque past 10 Nm, warping the cover and causing a slow oil seep that gets progressively worse with heat cycling. Torque in a crisscross pattern in two passes, and always confirm the 1.5L fill capacity with 5W-50 synthetic — underfilling starves the top end under sustained highway RPM.

Charging & Electrical System

ComponentStator Assembly
OEM Part Number31120-LEA7-E00
Dimensions18-pole OEM design
Torque SpecFlywheel nut: 60 Nm (43 lbf·ft)
Fluid/Electrical NotesEngine oil splash lubricated
Cross-CompatibilityKymco People GT 300i
Field note: Because the stator is oil-splash lubricated and shares the crankcase environment, any metal shavings left behind from a rushed stator swap will circulate through the entire lubrication system. Always torque the flywheel nut to exactly 60 Nm on a clean, dry taper — loose flywheels on this 18-pole design generate charging faults that intermittently mimic a failing regulator/rectifier, sending mechanics chasing the wrong component.

13111-LFA7-E001Piston PinLightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only
13115-LFA7-E002Piston Pin Clip (Circlip)Directional installation — see expert note below
Field note: On this 300cc-class single, piston inertial loading on the pin clips is higher than on smaller Kymco engines, making correct circlip orientation more critical, not less. The gap must face 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft — a backward clip compresses under load until it ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the next stroke, destroying the bore. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel.

Field note: The Downtown's large fairing panels have more surface area exposed to UV than smaller Kymco bodywork, and the mounting tabs behind that painted surface become brittle around the same three-year mark. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply silicone grease (never petroleum-based) to rubber grommets before removal so large panels can flex free without snapping a tab.
