SYM HD200 - Master Maintenance & Torque Guide

The SYM HD200 uses a liquid-cooled engine with a thermostat opening threshold on the lower end of the typical scooter range, meaning the cooling circuit reaches operating temperature relatively quickly. A stuck or improperly torqued thermostat housing on this platform produces symptoms that are easy to misattribute to a failing water pump if the thermostat itself isn't checked first.

DimensionsStandard 22mm bypass
Torque SpecHousing bolts: 10 Nm
Fluid/NotesOpens at 71°C (160°F)
Cross-CompatibilitySYM Citycom 300i
Field note: A thermostat opening at 71°C is on the cooler end of typical scooter specs; installing a substitute rated for a higher opening temperature (common when sourcing from a "compatible" generic part) causes the engine to run consistently hotter than designed, accelerating wear on piston rings and valve seats over time. Always verify the exact opening temperature stamped on the replacement part before installing, and keep housing bolt torque at 10 Nm to avoid warping the thin cast housing.

13111-H9A-0001Piston PinLightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only
13115-H9A-0002Piston Pin Clip (Circlip)Directional installation — see expert note below
Field note: On this liquid-cooled single, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load on every stroke until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the following stroke, destroying the bore. Because this engine shares its cooling circuit with the thermostat covered above, any debris circulating in the block after a botched piston service can also foul the coolant passages. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel.
