Engine Fluids, Gear Oil & Filter Specifications
| Gearbox Oil Viscosity & Volume | SAE 80W-90 GL-4 (100 ml) |
|---|---|
| 2-Stroke Injection Oil Standard | JASO FC / JASO FD Synthetic 2T Oil (1.2 L tank capacity) |
| OEM Oil Filter Part Number / Spec | In-Tank Strainer Screen Filter |
| OEM Air Filter Element Part Number | 843194 |
| Spark Plug Model & Electrode Gap | NGK BR8ES (Electrode gap: 0.6 - 0.7 mm) |
Field note: The Zip 50 2T requires exactly 100 ml of SAE 80W-90 GL-4 gearbox oil and uses an oil injection system fed from a 1.2 L tank. Fuel System
| Component | Dell'Orto PHVA 17.5 Carburetor |
|---|---|
| OEM Part Number | CM140901 |
| Dimensions | 17.5mm venturi |
| Torque Spec | Manifold clamp: 2-3 Nm |
| Fluid Spec | 2-Stroke pre-mix or injected |
| Cross-Compatibility | Vespa LX50 2T |
Field note: At only 2-3 Nm, the intake manifold clamp on this small carburetor is one of the lowest torque specs in this entire catalog, and it is extremely common for mechanics to over-tighten it using a standard screwdriver with too much leverage, crushing the rubber boot and creating a vacuum leak that causes a lean, surging idle. Use a low-torque driver and stop the moment resistance is felt — this joint should never require significant force to seal.
Engine Internals: Cylinder Head & Crankshaft
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CM140110 | 1 | Head Comp., Cylinder | Finned aluminum, no valve train — piston-port induction |
| CM140122 | 1 | Head Gasket | Single-use metal composite; never reuse |
| CM140135 | 4 | Head Nuts | Torque in criss-cross sequence, re-check after warm-up |
| CM140150 | 1 | Cylinder Barrel | Chrome-lined bore; inspect transfer/exhaust port edges |
| CM140165 | 1 | Base Gasket | Single-use; do not substitute thickness |
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| CM140210 | 1 | Crankshaft Comp. | Pressed two-piece design; check runout < 0.03mm |
| CM140225 | 1 | Connecting Rod | Caged roller big-end — requires correct 2-stroke lubrication ratio |
| CM140250 | 1 | Piston (Std.) | Domed piston, 2-ring set |
| CM140265 | 1 | Piston Pin | Lightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only |
| CM140270 | 2 | Piston Pin Clip (Circlip) | Directional installation — see expert note below |
Field note: On this piston-port 2-stroke, the piston pin circlips must be installed with their opening
gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load
on every stroke until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges
the cylinder wall on the very next stroke, destroying the bore and piston simultaneously. Always use new
clips and confirm full seating by feel before closing the case.

Field note: Given this platform's age, assume the plastic mounting tabs behind the painted surface are
already past the typical three-year UV brittleness threshold on most surviving units. Never use an
impact driver on body screws, and apply silicone grease to rubber grommets before removal —
color-matched replacement panels for older production years are frequently discontinued.
