Vespa PX150 (2-Stroke) - Master Maintenance & Torque Guide

The Vespa PX150 (2-Stroke) is the classic manual-clutch Vespa platform, using cork friction plates in a wet clutch bathed in non-detergent gear oil rather than a CVT variator. This mechanical clutch design, shared closely with the PX125 and the Genuine Stella 2T, rewards patient, methodical assembly far more than the torque-driven CVT platforms elsewhere in this catalog.

⚡ Quick Maintenance Specs & Direct Answers

  • Gearbox / Wet Clutch Oil: SAE 30 / SAE 80W Wet Clutch Oil (250 ml)
  • 2-Stroke Injection Oil: JASO FC/FD (1.4 L tank capacity)
  • Oil Filter: Strainer Mesh Screen Filter

Field note: The classic 2-stroke Vespa PX 150 uses separate siphoned oil injection (1.4 L oil tank) and a wet cork clutch / gearbox requiring 250 ml of non-detergent SAE 30 or 80W wet clutch oil. Clutch & Transmission System

DimensionsCork friction material, 96mm ID
Torque SpecClutch nut: 40-45 Nm
Fluid SpecSAE 30 Non-Detergent Gear Oil
Cross-CompatibilityVespa PX125, Stella 2T
Field note: Never use detergent motor oil in this clutch bath — detergent additives strip the friction properties from the cork plates far faster than the non-detergent SAE 30 spec, causing slippage that mimics worn-out plates when the real cause is the wrong fluid. When torquing the clutch nut to 40-45 Nm, always soak new cork plates in gear oil for at least 30 minutes before assembly; installing them dry causes uneven initial engagement and accelerated wear in the first few hundred miles.

Engine Internals: Cylinder Head & Crankshaft

2887651Piston PinLightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only
2887702Piston Pin Clip (Circlip)Directional installation — see expert note below
Field note: On this classic piston-port 2-stroke, shared architecture with the Genuine Stella 2T, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load on every stroke until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the very next stroke, destroying the bore and piston simultaneously. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel.

Field note: The PX150's classic steel body panels become brittle at the metal mounting flanges after years of exposure, and rust can form under chipped paint at screw points on this older platform more than on newer plastic-bodied models. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply light anti-seize or silicone grease to screw threads before reinstallation.
