Engine Fluids, Gear Oil & Filter Specifications
| Gearbox / Wet Clutch Oil Viscosity & Volume | SAE 30 Non-Detergent / SAE 80W Wet Clutch (250 ml) |
|---|---|
| 2-Stroke Injection Oil Standard | JASO FC / JASO FD Low-Smoke Synthetic 2T Oil (1.4 L tank) |
| OEM Oil Filter Part Number / Spec | Strainer Mesh Screen Filter (Clean & Re-use) |
| OEM Air Filter Element Part Number | 227763 |
| Spark Plug Model & Electrode Gap | NGK B7HS (Electrode gap: 0.6 mm) |
Field note: The classic 2-stroke Vespa PX 150 uses separate siphoned oil injection (1.4 L oil tank) and a wet cork clutch / gearbox requiring 250 ml of non-detergent SAE 30 or 80W wet clutch oil. For detailed top-end rebuild tolerances, wrist pin retention physics, and squish gap setup, read our full 2-Stroke Piston Pin Circlip Ejection & Top-End Failure Analysis Guide. Clutch & Transmission System
| Component | Clutch Friction Plates |
|---|---|
| OEM Part Number | 288670 |
| Dimensions | Cork friction material, 96mm ID |
| Torque Spec | Clutch nut: 40-45 Nm |
| Fluid Spec | SAE 30 Non-Detergent Gear Oil |
| Cross-Compatibility | Vespa PX125, Stella 2T |
Field note: Never use detergent motor oil in this clutch bath — detergent additives strip the friction properties from the cork plates far faster than the non-detergent SAE 30 spec, causing slippage that mimics worn-out plates when the real cause is the wrong fluid. When torquing the clutch nut to 40-45 Nm, always soak new cork plates in gear oil for at least 30 minutes before assembly; installing them dry causes uneven initial engagement and accelerated wear in the first few hundred miles.
Engine Internals: Cylinder Head & Crankshaft
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 288601 | 1 | Head Comp., Cylinder | Classic finned aluminum, no valve train |
| 288615 | 1 | Head Gasket | Single-use copper composite — controls squish clearance |
| 288622 | 4 | Head Nuts | Torque in criss-cross sequence, re-check after warm-up |
| 288640 | 1 | Cylinder Barrel | Chrome-lined bore; inspect transfer/exhaust port edges |
| 288655 | 1 | Base Gasket | Single-use; do not substitute thickness |
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 288710 | 1 | Crankshaft Comp. | Pressed two-piece design with flywheel taper; check runout < 0.03mm |
| 288725 | 1 | Connecting Rod | Caged roller big-end — requires correct 2-stroke lubrication ratio |
| 288750 | 1 | Piston (Std.) | Domed piston, 2-ring set |
| 288765 | 1 | Piston Pin | Lightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only |
| 288770 | 2 | Piston Pin Clip (Circlip) | Directional installation — see expert note below |
Field note: On this classic piston-port 2-stroke, shared architecture with the Genuine Stella 2T, the
piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never
fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load on every stroke until it walks out of its
groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the very next stroke,
destroying the bore and piston simultaneously. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel.

Field note: The PX150's classic steel body panels become brittle at the metal mounting flanges after
years of exposure, and rust can form under chipped paint at screw points on this older platform more
than on newer plastic-bodied models. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply light
anti-seize or silicone grease to screw threads before reinstallation.
