Engine Fluids, Gear Oil & Filter Specifications
| Specification Parameter | OEM Factory Technical Value |
|---|---|
| Engine Oil Viscosity & Standard | SAE 10W-40 | API SE / SF / SG / SL Standard |
| Engine Oil Drain & Refill Capacity | 0.8L (without filter / drain) / 1.0L (total capacity) |
| Final Drive / Gearbox Oil & Capacity | SAE 10W-40 / 80W-90 | 140ml (drain) / 160ml (total) |
| OEM Oil Filter Part Number | Strainer Screen OEM # 15421-107-000 (Clean screen at oil service) |
| OEM Air Filter Element Part Number | OEM # 17214-KS4-010 (Viscous paper filter) |
| Spark Plug Model & Electrode Gap | NGK DPR7EA-9 | Electrode Gap: 0.8-0.9mm (0.031-0.035 in) |
Expert Maintenance Note: The 244cc Helix engine requires SAE 10W-40 engine oil. Inspect and flush the oil strainer screen (OEM # 15421-107-000) during oil changes. Always verify final drive gear oil levels (140ml drain / 160ml refill) to prevent planetary gear wear.
CVT Transmission System
| Component | CVT Drive Belt |
|---|---|
| OEM Part Number | 23100-KM1-671 |
| Dimensions | 828 x 22.5 mm |
| Torque Spec | Drive face nut: 59 Nm (43 lbf·ft) |
| Cross-Compatibility | Honda Elite 250 (CH250) |
Field note: Given the Helix's age, the drive face taper frequently shows light surface corrosion. Torquing to 59 Nm over a corroded, unclean taper gives a false sense of security — the fastener reads "tight" on the wrench but the actual clamping force on the pulley is compromised, allowing the nut to loosen within a few hundred miles. Always clean both taper surfaces to bare metal before torquing.
Cooling System
| Component | Coolant Thermostat |
|---|---|
| OEM Part Number | 19300-KM1-003 |
| Dimensions/Notes | Valve opening: 80-84°C |
| Torque Spec | Housing bolts: 10 Nm (7.2 lbf·ft) |
| Fluid Spec | Ethylene Glycol 50/50 mix |
| Cross-Compatibility | Honda Elite 250 (CH250) |
Field note: A thermostat stuck open on the Helix produces subtle symptoms — slightly reduced fuel economy and a heater/cabin fan that never gets warm — that owners often dismiss for years, while a thermostat stuck closed causes rapid overheating and can crack the cylinder head within minutes of hard riding. Always pressure-test the cooling system after reinstalling the housing, and never exceed 10 Nm on the cover bolts — this housing is thin-wall cast aluminum and cracks easily.
Engine Internals: Cylinder Head & Crankshaft
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12100-KM1-671 | 1 | Head Comp., Cylinder | Resurface flatness tolerance 0.05mm max |
| 12210-KM1-671 | 1 | Valve, Exhaust | Check margin thickness > 0.5mm — older units often need replacement |
| 12200-KM1-671 | 1 | Valve, Inlet | Do not swap positions with exhaust valve |
| 12251-KM1-671 | 1 | Gasket, Cylinder Head | Single-use metal composite |
| 14100-KM1-671 | 1 | Camshaft Comp. | Inspect lobe wear carefully on high-mileage units |
| Part No. | Qty | Part Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13300-KM1-671 | 1 | Crankshaft Comp. | Check runout < 0.03mm; inspect taper for corrosion on older units |
| 13210-KM1-671 | 1 | Connecting Rod | Big-end side clearance spec: 0.1-0.4mm |
| 13010-KM1-671 | 1 | Piston (Std.) | Flat-top piston, 3-ring set |
| 13111-KM1-671 | 1 | Piston Pin | Lightly oil before install; hand-pressure fit only |
| 13115-KM1-671 | 2 | Piston Pin Clip (Circlip) | Directional installation — see expert note below |
Field note: On the Helix's long-stroke single, the piston pin circlips must be fitted with their opening
gap 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under load until it walks out
of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the following
stroke. Given this platform's age, inspect the circlip groove itself for wear before assuming a new clip
alone will hold — a worn groove will eventually eject even a correctly-oriented clip.

Field note: On a platform this old, assume the plastic mounting tabs behind the painted surface are
already well past the typical three-year UV brittleness threshold. Never use an impact driver on body
screws, and apply silicone grease to rubber grommets before removal — on the Helix's large fairing
panels, a snapped tab often means sourcing a discontinued color-matched replacement.
