Expert Maintenance Note: Always utilize JASO MB specified 10W-30 engine oil on the Honda PCX 125 eSP engine. Avoid automotive oils containing heavy friction modifiers, as well as wet-clutch JASO MA oils. The lower oil strainer screen (OEM # 15421-107-000) should be removed, cleaned with solvent, and inspected for metallic particles at every engine oil change interval.

Field note: Over-tightening the shock bolts beyond 39 Nm crushes the rubber mounting bushings, transmitting road shock directly into the frame and producing a harsh, clunky ride that mechanics often misattribute to a worn shock rather than an over-torqued mount. Since this unit is factory-sealed with no adjustment or rebuild option, a shock that has lost damping must be replaced as a unit — do not attempt to open or re-gas it.

Field note: On the eSP short block, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the gap oriented 90° to the direction of piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load on every stroke until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the next stroke, destroying the bore. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel before closing the case.

Field note: This platform's painted plastic body panels become progressively brittle at the mounting tabs after roughly three years of continuous UV exposure. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply silicone grease (never petroleum-based) to rubber grommets before removal so panels can flex free without cracking a brittle tab.
