Field note: These are retaining pins, not through-bolts — treating them like standard caliper bolts and torquing to a generic "brake bolt" value outside the 20-25 Nm range either lets the pads float excessively (under-torque) or binds the pad retraction spring (over-torque), producing brake drag and reduced fuel economy. Always confirm the pin design before applying torque, and grease the pin shafts lightly (never the pad friction surface) to prevent seizure.

Field note: On this 3-valve engine, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap
oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under load until it
ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the next stroke. With two intake
valves rather than one, also take extra care not to drop a valve into the bore during head reassembly.

Field note: Vespa's steel body panels become brittle at the metal mounting flanges after years of UV and
moisture exposure, with rust forming under chipped paint at screw points. Never use an impact driver on
body screws, and apply light anti-seize or silicone grease to screw threads before reinstallation to
prevent seizure on future removal.
