Field note: The 50cc 4-stroke Hi-Per4 engine requires 0.85 L of synthetic 5W-40 oil with an oil filter replacement. The final drive reduction gearbox requires exactly 120 ml of SAE 80W-90 GL-4 gear lubricant. Field note: This 8mm plug thread is small enough that cross-threading during installation is the single most common failure mode reported for this component — always hand-thread the plug in fully by feel before using any tool, and never force it if resistance is felt early. Exceeding 12 Nm on this small thread strips the aluminum head almost instantly, converting a simple plug change into a helicoil repair job.

Field note: On this small-bore 4-valve engine, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the following stroke, destroying the bore on an engine with very little material margin to absorb damage. With four valves rather than two, also take extra care not to drop a valve into the bore during head reassembly.

Field note: Vespa's steel body panels become brittle at the metal mounting flanges after years of UV and moisture exposure, with rust forming under chipped paint at screw points. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply light anti-seize or silicone grease to screw threads before reinstallation.
