Yamaha SMAX 155 - Master Maintenance & Torque Guide

The Yamaha SMAX 155 shares its 45 Nm variator/sheave nut torque with the NMAX and Zuma 125 across both its roller weights and V-belt, reflecting a common Yamaha 155cc CVT design language. Both components on this model are unique-fitment with no direct cross-compatibility, meaning belt and roller replacement must use genuine or precisely matched OEM specifications.

Field note: The high-output 155cc liquid-cooled SMAX engine requires strict 10W-40 JASO MB oil changes at 0.95 L drain capacity. Torque the gearbox drain plug carefully and refill with 150 ml of gear lubricant. Refer to the Yamaha NMAX 155 master guide for 155cc platform comparison. CVT Transmission System

ComponentCVT Roller Weights (Set of 6)
OEM Part Number1DK-E7632-00
Dimensions20 x 12 mm, 12.0g each
Torque SpecVariator nut: 45 Nm (33 lbf·ft)
Cross-CompatibilityUnique to SMAX 155
Field note: At 12.0g each, these rollers are slightly lighter than the visually similar NMAX 155 rollers — installing the wrong weight set (even from the same Yamaha parts family) shifts the variator's engagement RPM and noticeably changes acceleration feel. Always confirm the exact part number rather than assuming visual similarity means interchangeability.

Drive Belt

ComponentV-Belt
OEM Part Number1DK-E7641-00
DimensionsStandard OEM width: 22.6 mm
Torque SpecPrimary sheave nut: 45 Nm (33 lbf·ft)
Cross-CompatibilityUnique to SMAX 155
Field note: Measure any substitute belt against the 22.6mm width spec before installation — a belt even slightly narrower than spec seats deeper into the pulley grooves, changing the effective gear ratio at both ends of the CVT's range and producing a "flat" feeling in acceleration. Torque the primary sheave nut to 45 Nm on a clean taper to prevent premature loosening.

1DK-11635-002Piston Pin Clip (Circlip)Directional installation — see expert note below
Field note: On this Blue Core short block, the piston pin circlips must be installed with the opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft. A backward clip compresses under inertial load on every stroke until it walks out of its groove and ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges the cylinder wall on the following stroke, destroying the bore. Use only new clips and confirm full seating by feel before closing the case.

Field note: Yamaha's painted plastic panels become progressively brittle at the mounting tabs after roughly three years of continuous UV exposure. Never use an impact driver on body screws, and apply silicone grease (never petroleum-based) to rubber grommets before removal so panels flex free without cracking.
