Field note: With four circlips instead of two on this high-performance parallel-twin engine, and a 160 Nm primary sheave nut spec elsewhere on this platform underscoring how unforgiving this machine is of shortcuts, every clip must have its opening gap oriented 90° to piston travel, never fore-or-aft, on both cylinders. A single backward clip on either piston compresses under load until it ejects into the crankcase, and the freed pin gouges that cylinder wall on the next stroke. Also verify piston weights are matched within tolerance across both cylinders — the TMAX's higher operating RPM makes an unmatched pair's vibration far more noticeable than on a touring twin.
